NZ Whisky Co. - Introduction for a Tasting at Regional Wines

When the Willowbank distillery was bought by Fosters in 1997 and subsequently mothballed, a large volume of fine, aged whisky was moved into storage and left to its own devices, quietly ageing and improving in the unexpected confines of an airport hangar. It wasn’t until 2009 that this whisky was re-discovered and its inherent quality realised by the clever folk at the New Zealand Whisky Co., who consequently bought 80,000 litres held in 443 barrels. Now, happily housed by the sea in Oamaru, these rare old whiskies are once again available for consumption. Come and join Grant Finn as he talks us through a fabulous line-up of old beauties that represent a deep tranche of NZ’s whisky heritage and whose diversity will surprise; Single grain whisky aged in American bourbon barrels and finished in French oak NZ wine barrels; single malts from ex Bourbon American Oak and blends of malt and grain. In the maverick spirit of NZ Whisky, there will also be samples of their new Small Cask Offer, which makes small 20 litre casks available for purchase, after being aged by the sea on your behalf prior to bottling at the age of two, and resulting in 45 personalised bottles of your very own whisky.
